“Tom’s songs have a
way of sneaking up on you. You find yourself humming them,
whistling them, and singing a verse to a friend. Like the songs of
Woody Guthrie, they're becoming part of America.”
- Pete Seeger
“Perceptive … clever … ranks up there with The Beatles and Bob
Dylan…”
- Dirty Linen
What can you say about a folk legend? Tom Paxton has played with
everyone—Dylan, Ochs, Seeger, Doc Watson, Mississippi John Hurt.
He has become a voice of his generation, addressing issues of
injustice and inhumanity, laying bare the absurdities of modern
culture, and celebrating the tenderest bonds of family, friends,
and community.
Paxton has been an integral part of the songwriting and folk music
community since the early '60s Greenwich Village scene, and today
is admired by three generations of fellow musicians. His songs
have become modern standards, with most of us able to sing right
along to classics like “The Last Thing on My Mind,”
“Ramblin’ Boy,” “Bottle of Wine,” “Goin’ to the Zoo,” and “The
Marvelous Toy.”
Tom helps us celebrate the end of Golden Link’s 40th anniversary,
and we have probably spent at least one of those years singing
songs Tom has written!
