GOLDEN LINK CONCERT SURVEY FORM

In recent years, the proliferation of organizations offering folk music concerts in the greater Rochester area has resulted in conflicts of scheduling and the thinning of audiences. When Golden Link was founded in 1971, there were few opportunities to hear good live folk music in the area, and our organization was able to present popular, well-attended concerts on a frequent basis. Among performers, Rochester became known as a good venue, because of the enthusiasm and large attendance (and income) potential. In recent years, as other organizations such as the 12 Corners Coffeehouse, Milestones, Local Folkel, colleges, music schools, museums, etc. have begun presenting popular concerts, attendance at individual events has declined. There is significant competition for the audience's dollar as well as for their time. Currently, the 12 Corners Coffeehouse has already scheduled almost weekly concerts for the next 6-8 months, all on Saturday nights. This makes it almost impossible for Golden Link to schedule a concert on a Saturday, and siphons off some potential attendance from a concert on a Friday or other night of the week, due to cost, necessity of getting child care for two nights, and other factors. We  have had moderate success with our concerts in spite of this by being careful to select musicians of contrasting style, lesser-known musicians who command smaller fees, musicians who are more flexible in tour scheduling, etc., but the effort involved is becoming a barrier.

We would appreciate it if you would take a couple of minutes to fill out this form and submit it via E-Mail by clicking the "Submit" button below. We will use the survey results in developing a strategy for concert promotion for the 1998-99 season.
