ED TRICKETT
HOUSE CONCERT
This packed-house concert by one of Golden Link members' most-admired musicians was a real treat. Ed has been visiting Golden Link since the year we were founded, 1971. Despite the fact that Ed's hammered dulcimer was absent due to "illness", his playing on six- and twelve-string guitar was excellent, and the fine tenor voice was as strong as ever.
The songs, both acapella and accompanied, provided a mixture of styles and emotions, and many were from his recent CD album, "Echo On the Evening Tide". One special treat was Ed's rendition of a tune written by Garrison Keillor as a parody of Gordon Bok's well-known "Turning Toward the Morning". The audience, a mixture of Golden Link regulars and several new faces, joined in enthusiastically on many of the choruses.
The concert was followed, as always, by a sing-around until around 1:00 AM. Amazingly, Ed continued to participate to the end, in spite of having spent the day driving up from his Maryland home.
On a melancholy note, Ed commented that the final tour of "TBM" (Ed, Gordon Bok and Ann Mayo Muir) will be this Fall. Based on his memory, Ed said that the nearest venue to Rochester would be Albany, and he believed that would be on Thursday, September 28th. Folks wanting to see this fine group perform live one last time may wish to mark their calendars.
Here are a couple of pictures of Ed performing:
