Tickets: $5 at the Door
April brings us another month with five Tuesdays. As is customary, instead of a sing around we'll be having a Members Showcase concert to bring you some of our talented members performing in short sets during the evening. It's always entertaining, and definitely fun! Join us on April 30th for this uniquely Golden Link event.
WhenTom Hollar was 13, the Beatles hit America and, on hearing them, he just had to learn how to play the guitar. Tom reports, “I went to the local music store, bought an awful student guitar with strings about an inch off the fretboard and a book by Ed Sale called ‘Guitar Self-Taught’. I spent untold hours trying to tune the guitar, much less play it.” Tom has been at Golden Link about two years and enjoys the Sing-arounds and what he has learned from being exposed to all kinds of music there. Tom was recently appointed Festival Chairman for the 2019 Turtle Hill Festival.
Kathy and Patrick Schwar
Kathy and Patrick Schwar joined Golden Link when they moved here 30 years ago. Thanks to the Golden Link sing-arounds, that they began attending four years ago, they decided to start singing together. They’ve sung at church festivals, open mics from Hilton to Clifton Springs, the ADK expo, and community celebrations.
Since meeting in an off-campus coffeehouse in northern Illinois while in college and joining the Tuesday night singing circle here, they’ve come to know and admire many musical friends.
Mitzie Collins, Linda Sniedze Taggart and Andy Hanson
Mitzie Collins on hammered and mountain dulcimer will be joined by two good musical friends, Linda Sniedze Taggart on hammered dulcimer, and Andy Hanson, on accordion, recorders, bodhran, and Marimbula.
Mitzie comments "I am delighted to be asked to perform on a 5th Tuesday Concert. I can remember way, way back when the Golden Link board first came up with this idea....and it is still a good idea! The three of us will cover a variety of dance tunes and songs with plenty of opportunity for audience participation.
Linda Sniedze Taggart is Co-director of Striking Strings, the hammered dulcimer performing ensemble of the Eastman Community Music School, along with Mitzie Collins, and teaches group lessons through the school. Linda is a popular performer and workshop leader at national festivals and local events. Her blog Dark Horse Dulcimer can be found atwww.lindataggartdulcimer.typepadcom.
Andy Hanson is a versatile performer who never turns down an opportunity to make music. A member of Striking Strings, he always picks out the perfect accompanying instrument for a wide repertory, ranging from New York State tunes to Bavarian Dances to Japanese folk songs
