Golden Link presents an evening of Improvisational Singing with Kaleidoscope
Rochester, NY – Kaleidoscope is four fearless vocalists – Pat Wictor (of Brother Sun), Deborah Latz, Jeannette Miller, and Jesse Goldman – who improvise pieces that surprise and delight. They bring their music to Rochester for a Golden Link concert on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 7:30 pm at Greece Baptist Church, 1230 Long Pond Road, Rochester NY 14626.
The four met in the Circle Singing community of vocal improvisers started by Bobby McFerrin and members of his Voicestra. Assuming roles normally played by instruments – from vocal percussion to bass or horn lines to soloing – they create music that is by turns soulful, whimsical, lyrical, playful, and funny. From moment to moment, you never know what will happen, and neither do they.
There could be interactive moments where audience members get to influence – or participate in – the music making. Be prepared for a myriad of colorful soundscapes and high-flying musical fun.
Kaleidoscope will also present an Improvisational Singing Workshop prior to the concert from 4:00-5:30 pm. Through musical games and fun exercises using voice and physical movement, participants will make spontaneous, one-of-a-kind music together. Kaleidoscope will also explore some simple techniques and concepts to guide creating improvised pieces.
No experience necessary – anybody can do it. All ages and musical levels welcome. Come join the fun. Advance online registration is required for the workshop, separate from a concert ticket purchase.
Online ticket sales end at midnight on May 9.
