“The Newberry-Verch collaboration, a seamless blend of Canadian and Ozark/Appalachian styles, is a masterful fusion of shared interests and musical tastes.” – Raleigh News & Observer
“… the pair’s instrumental virtuosity and unaffected vocals … have you gladly listening and, at times, dancing along.” – Songlines (CD review)
Joe Newberry and April Verch showcase tunes, ballads, step dancing, and original songs by way of the Ozarks and Canada’s Ottawa Valley, respectively. With beautiful harmony singing, breathtaking instrumentals, and exquisite dancing, these two singular musicians hit the stage in perfect rhythm, making audiences remember why this music existed in the first place.
Newberry (guitar, banjo, vocals) is an award-winning songwriter known for his work with mandolin icon Mike Compton, as well as The Transatlantic Sessions and A Prairie Home Companion. Verch (fiddle, vocals, step dance) is best known for two decades of international touring with The April Verch Band and a 2020 JUNO Award Nominee.
This collaboration holds a special place in their hearts, so they have carved out time in their schedules for regular tours together, resulting in appearances in North America and Europe, a special Christmas program, and three albums together.
Their 2026 release, Blessing on the Wing, showcases songs and tunes that celebrate the passing seasons, sunrises and sunsets, birds, traditions, and love.
Whether it is the power of two voices lifted in harmony or the sound of traditional tunes calling people to get up and move, these two masters of tradition put on an unforgettable show.
